Making Tax Digital (MTD)
MTD is HMRC’s move to a fully digital tax system. If you run a business or earn income from property, you’ll need to switch to digital tax filing using approved software.

Charterwells helps small businesses, landlords, and limited companies stay compliant and stress-free.
1
Who needs to follow MTD
All VAT-registered businesses must comply now.
From April 2026, it extends to sole traders, partnership and landlords earning over £50,000 business or property income. This is gross income not the net profit.
From April 2027, it will apply to those earning over £30,000

If you are a company director, who also has gross rental income over these limits, then this will also apply to you.
